Training Courses

The constant evolution of modern laser light scattering offers many solutions to our customer. In the last years new methods have been developed, which allow to characterize also turbid or concentrated colloidal systems. LS Instruments organizes training courses about laser light scattering. In these courses the applications and limitations of the light scattering technology are described and the different experimental methods are presented. The courses are conducted with a limited number of participants in order to guarantee a most intensive training.

Previous Workshops

The last workshop on «Modern Light Scattering Technologies» was held at the Physics Department of the University of Fribourg on the 10th-11th of November 2011. It is organized in cooperation with the Soft Matter Photonics Group of Prof. Scheffold. The course offered a unique combination of introductory lectures on light scattering and optical microrheology with the possibility to gain hands on experience using the latest laboratory equipment in the field of Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Static Light Scattering (SLS) and Diffusing Wave Spectroscopy (DWS). This workshop featured a special focus on the the multiple scattering regime and application of DWS as a optical rheology technology:

The lectures were  given by leading experts in the field:

  • Dr. Andrea Vaccaro - LS Instruments AG

    "Light Scattering: Fundamentals"

  • Prof. Dr. Peter Schurtenberger - Lund University

"Light Scatterig Applications: Turbid and Strongly Interacting Suspensions"

  • Prof. Dr. Frank Scheffold - University of Fribourg
"Diffusing Wave Spectroscopy: Fundamentals and Applications"

  • Frédéric Cardinaux– University of Fribourg

"Dynamical heterogeneities in dense monodisperse emulsions"

Half of the time was dedicated to lectures and half to practical Lab Sessions in small groups.
